How To Select A Gemstone

• Dear friends,

The pratikool-anukool theory making rounds and giving certificates to each and all on payment of some money, does not hold ground, as you will read in the following lines submitted by me.

a) Should we recommend gemstones for functional malefic planets? functional benefic planets only? or Both?

None.

b) Should we recommend gemstones for planets placed in 6th, 8th and 12th Houses? In which conditions?

Normally not. But essentially if these planets placed in 6th, 8th or 12th are placed in nakshatras who are owners of the wealth giving houses or desire fulfillments(2nd and 11th ). (Which is what one requires in Life, so lets be honest here).

c) Should we use Divisional charts for recommending gemstones instead of Rashi chart? For example: Dashamsha for Career?

No.

d) Should we recommend precious and semi-precious gemstones and leave the decision to the user to decide which one to wear?

Yes. (I personally do not recommend semi-precious)

e) Should we recommend gemstone only for the lords of Lagna, 5th and 9th? If so, why not others, if they are benefic and placed well?

The 9th if a badhaksthana for a Fixed Lagna must not be recommended. One must not suggest Lagna Lord Gem if it is placed in nakshatra of the planet owning 8th or 12th. Because then the Lagna Lord will be actually giving the results of these negative houses. For a person who is in service the Gemstone for the 5th lord should not be recommended because then he may begin facing problems in his job, since the job is signified by the 6th house and by wearing the Gemstone for the 5th Lord one is actually strengthening the 12th house from the 6th.

BUT for a person looking for good health , he must be suggested a Gemstone for the 5th Lord, because the 5th signifies Cure.

So there are Gemstones to be recommended for a specific purpose too depending on the current problem. For instance one not getting a job if badly looking for one, may be suggested a Gemstone for the planet signifying the 6th Lord, but eventually after acquiring one, has to remove the same, or else would also increase the ill health propensities in his nativity.

Even the Lord of the 8th can give superb results if well placed, and even the Lord of the Lagna can give bad results, so there is nothing like some mandatory rule to be followed in this matter.

f) Which gemstones do you recommend for each planet? Example: Red Ruby and Red Garnet for Sun. Emerald, Peridot, Green Jade for Mercury.

The Original Gemstones. Ruby and Emerald. If the person cannot afford this, then let him keep the objects of the planets in his Shirt Pocket, like piece of Haldi , or some sugar for the Moon etc.

Gemstone recommending is an intricate science but now has become a like a Duplicate Rolex watch in hands of one and all.

At times Gems have to recommended for a temporary time, keeping the end(Result) in mind and once that is achieved,the Gem must be removed.

At times if one is not able to marry then one has to be suggested Gemstone for Planet signifying 2nd and 7th but would you allow the person to wear this, till he becomes old, when this same Gemstone would tend to strengthen to the maraka propensities for the native ?

The there are other problems to contend with too. For a newly married couple a green Emerald will not be favourable. Why ? Because it will reduce the sexual desires. Remember the basics ? Mercury is a Hermaphrodite Planet .

Then there are people who at the drop of the hat suggest The Pearl or the Moonstone immediately. Now if the Sun is the Lord of the Kundli or having Lordship of an imposrtant house in the Horoscope, would it make sense to wear a Pearl ? Or else if one is born on a Amavasya or a Poornima one should certainly note what would be the effects of wearing a Pearl before jumping to suggest this. There are other factyors like waning Moon and the waxing Moon the implications of which must be understood well before suggesting this Gem. Instead of bringing stability to mind, on the contrary it may cause depressions too. And by the way nobody in Real Life is so unstable that we need to suggest Gems for such frivilous matters which most astrologers do. “Your mind will become calm. You will be able to make better decesions. You will have peace of mind”. This is logicless talking. Because the other problems which may affect in a horde, would not be foreseen or one may not have the foreseight to observe these.

Even the above made suggestions would change strictly speaking if one goes for Original Cosmic colour therapy ,on which I wil put a note some other day or may not put up because its too exhaustive and technical. For Instance we think that the Pearl means white, but actually its Cosmic rays are made of Orange colour. We think Diamond as White but its Cosmic rays are of Indigo colours. If one has excess of Red(Pitta) Cosmic rays in his body then one has to counter it with Orange/Green(Kapha) Rays. This is related to the various Chakras in the body. For instance the Red Colour (Fire Element) represented by Ruby, rules the Manipur Chakra in the body , also known as the Solar/Abdominal Plexus. This will be affecting the Pranamaya Kosha. All the Gems are nothing but a Concentrated form of the Cosmic rays (like Gulab Jala made of Rose, or Vanilla Essence), and each Ray is linked to a particular wavelength (For ex. Red has a Wavelength Mu of 800-650) which affects the body, so wanton suggestion of Gems is a dangerous habit and carries a lot of rinabandhan on the Astrologer suggesting so.

The Change of place can bring Change IN fortune ???

When a person is born the Potential (Prarabhdha) is decided according to the PurvaPunaya and Purva Karma So It is also the Sanchit Karma. The Place and time and date are pre decided and it is absolute. Thro the shastras, the time and date and place of birth also gives clear indication of the environment in which the birth has taken place. We can move the natal chart such a way that there is sthir rashi with subha graha aspecting it or deposited in it would be on the 9th house. Part of fortuna should be in good house prefef\rably 11th, 9th.

And through calculation conclude on longitude of the place. This can be further refine by latitude.

The hemisphere can also give a twist to the chart as the north/south hemisphere helps malefic and benifics according to differen lagnas.

WHY SATURN IS EXALTED IN LIBRA, various reasons, but let’s understands basics first……

Venus:-
Vrish – Bhoomi tatva- 50% Jal, Tula – Vayu tatva- 25% Jal.
Mercury:-
Kanya – Bhoomi tatva- 0% Jal, Mithun- Vayu tatva- 0% Jal.
Jupiter:-
Dhanu – Agni tatva- 50% Jal, Meena- Jal tatva- 100% Jal.
Mars:-
Mesh- Agni tatva- 25% Jal, Vrishchik- Jal tatva- 25% Jal.
Sun:-
Simh- Agni tatva- 0% Jal.
Moon:-
Kark- Jal tatva- 100% Jal.

Before going ahead lets also understand that…

Grah gives rise to “Iccha Shakti”
Rashi gives rise to “Gyana Shakti”
Nakshatra gives rise to “Kriya shakti”

NOW THE REASONS:

1) Saturn has control over Air, so primary significator of the Air; hence called as vayu tatva grah (Mithun(Gemini), Tula(libra) and kumbh(aquarius) are the vayu(air element) tatva rashi therefore falls under the jurisdiction of Saturn).

As a result Saturn is more comfort table in Vayu tatva rashi.

Now why Saturn is not exalted in other vayu tatva rashi’s like Mithun and kumbh?

2 basic reasons:

a) Relationship of Saturn with Venus is stronger than Saturn’s relationship with Mercury, though Saturn is friendly to both but Venus is the favorite chap of Saturn, hence Saturn is not exaltated in Mithun. As per lal kitab, there is an inherent connection between Saturn and Venus, they both comes to each other rescue when caught in a problem. You all must have seen that the most eventful antardasha dasha in the mahadasha of Saturn is that of Venus, now whether it’s GOOD or BAD, it depends on many factors.

Kumbh is Saturn’s own and mooltrikond sign, hence this possibility is also ruled out for Saturn’s exaltation.

So Saturn is exalted in Tula.

Note: Saturn is not exalted in Venus other sign, i.e. Taurus because that is a bhoomi tatva(earth sign) and also not the mooltrikond sign of Venus.

b) Another reasoning is, Mithun rashi is a nirjal rashi (0% water content), kumbh is a ardhjal rashi (50% water content) and Tula is a padjal rashi (25% water content), Tula is preferred by Saturn also because Saturn is the enemy of moon i.e. jal tatva planet, since kumbh has 50% water content, it manages that by owning it but is not completely delighted over there, on the other extreme Mithun is a nirjal rashi which is also not preferred by Saturn. Hence exalted in padjal rashi tula….now why exactly Saturn does not prefer Nirjal rashi(0 % water content sign)….the answer lies in the formation of our planet where water’s share
is itself 70 %…only few planets like sun(which itself is fire element) prefer the Nirjal sign……and that is the reason why Moon gets uncomfortable in Mithun and virgo signs…if not aspected by shubh planets… more so because for moon mercury is the enemy…anyways lets move ahead…

2) General character of Libra rashi matches with that of Saturn i.e. both are judicious in dealings, hence Exalted in Tula.
3) Libra is the sign of balance and Saturn is the Planet of balance or Justice, hence Exalted in Tula.
4) Libra rules the west direction and Saturn gains Directional strength in 7th house which coincides with west direction. This could be understood as per the kalchakra too, hence exalted in Tula.
5) Libra is the southern sign and Saturn’s both rashi’s Makar and kumbh coincides with south direction (10th house and 11th house) as per the kalchakra system, hence exalted in Tula.
6) Both Tula and Saturn rules dhatuu (or metal)
7) Libra rules past tense and Saturn is famous for giving the results of the past karma bluntly.
Note: Icha shakti of Saturn (Planet) gains maximum Gyan shakti in Tula Rashi.

There are many other reasons and point of views, for instance;

1) Saturn turns exalted where sun turns neech, to understand this is deep, I have to write another article on why sun gets neech in Tula…again there are many reasons…but main ones are Swati nakshatra ruled by rahu (most dreaded enemy of Sun) lies in Tula rashi, lord venus is the shatru of sun (this shatruta aggravates in the mooltrikond sign of Venus) etc etc…anyways lets remain focused on Saturn exaltation factors.
2) For many the answer lies in the nakshatras of Tula rashi, 2 padas of chitra(lord mars), 4 padas of Swati(lord rahu) and 3 padas of vishakha(lord Jupiter)….will explain from this angle in detail…ASAP.

1. If Mars is with Moon/Jupiter/Rahu.

2. If Mars is debilated/exalted/retrograde/combusted/own house.

3. Mars in 12th house in the house of Venus/Mercury.

Note: There are other conditions also that people believe and many text books have a mention of them…(Like manglik dosha is cancelled for Cancer/Leo ascendancts as Mars is YogKaraka..or if Mars is in friends’ house, it is cancelled..etc…But acc to my knowledge and personal experience, the above 3 are the most dominating conditions…)

Firsly, for Manglik Dosha (1st.4th and 7th house )if Mars in its own/exaltation/mooltrikona sign, StrongRuchak Mahapurusha Yoga is formed..The native is quite daring in that case and also has leadership qualities. But if Mars is a functional malefic or baadhak grah for an ascendant, then the good affects of this Yoga are highly compromised…Same happens if Mars is afflicted by some unfavourable conjugations and affects.

Following are some results of Manglik dosha in various houses. Please note that these results give only a general idea…And the net outcome may wary depending upon other astrological factors:

Manglik Dosha in 1st House(Ascendant)–>Makes the native ambitious and hard-working… The negative point here is that it can also sometimes degrade the personality of an individual and his temparament. Exalted Planets and Debilitated Planets

Among the 12 Zodiac signs, there is one specific sign in which a planet functions at its optimum. This is called its sign of “Exaltation.” The sign which is opposite or 180 degrees apart in the Zodiac is known as the sign of “Debilitation” for that particular planet. In debilitated sign, the planet is weak and it causes many challenges and difficulties in the life of a native.

Basically in the sign of exaltation, the planet functions freely as per its true nature and delivers positive results in our life. Conversely, in the sign of debilitation, the planet cannot function freely because the nature of sign does not harmonize with the nature of planets. For all planets except Mercury, the signs of exaltation are different from the signs which are ruled by each planet. For Mercury, Virgo is the sign of exaltation and it is also ruled by Mercury.

Each Zodiac sign has a dimension of 30 degrees. There is a specific degree of exaltation and hence a specific degree of debilitation which are different for every planet. Sun : Its exaltation sign is Aries. The degree of exaltation is 10 degrees. Therefore, the sign of debilitation is Libra and degree of debilitation is also 10 degrees. The sun represents the fire element. It is the source of all energy which sustains the entire solar system including all life form on earth. When Sun is located in Aries which is a cardinal sign type with fire element; Sun functions best because of the commonality of the element. The cardinal nature of Aries gives it a clear direction for action. Fire element gives strong will, ambition, determination, leadership. On the higher level, Sun in Aries gives independence,clarity strong judgment and high values.

However, when Sun is located in Libra, it has to interact with Air element of Libra sign. The air and Fire together will create uncontrolled energy. It will become like a forest fire which will destroy everything without creating anything. In an individual, it will create pride and arrogance which in reality will be because of deep seated insecurity because Sun is weak and will be malefically disposed in its inimical sign ruled by Venus. Fixed types are firm ,stable and determined about who they are and what they do. Exalted Moon in Taurus brings the best of lunar qualities in the person. They seek balance and harmony in individual relationships and in their organizations of immediate environment. It gives a strong sense of form and beauty, the best of lunar qualities It can make them very romantic and devotional and are often votaries of the idea that all is love manifesting the highest qualities of Venus, the ruler of Taurus combined with the highest qualities of Moon.

Moon gets debilitated in Scorpio which is a fixed sign but with water element. This is kind of excess water like flood which destroys all the crop. Being fixed sign the water does not flow. It gets stagnated. In a person this creates excess of unbalanced lunar energies of past baggage of emotion and feelings. Afflictions to the moon can show personality disorders, difficulties in relating to other people and emotional disturbances. In Capricorn Mars is like fire controlled and enclosed in a hearth made of earth, which can be directed for useful purposes like a steam engine or to give warmth and comfort. People with Mars in Capricorn has power, strength, courage and aggression almost like Sun but more to carry out mundane tasks in life without the higher goals and vales of Sun.

Mercury is debilitated in Pisces which is also dual sign with water element. This water element completely dilutes the analytical intellect of Mercury in a whirlpool of misplaced emotions and impractical ideas. People with debilitated Mercury are not exactly fools but are confused. They are enthusiastic but not always wisely so. Debilitated Mercury can make a person lack in boundaries. It will keep us in bondage and will take away all our vitality on a physical or mental level.

Rahu/Ketu : The two lunar nodes are always 180 degrees opposite to each other.
Rahu is more like Saturn and has air element. Ketu is more like sun and Mars and has fire element. Rahu is exalted in Taurus and debilitated in Scorpio and for Ketu it is just the opposite. The degree of exaltation is supposed to be 20 degrees. Rahu and Ketu are said to be shadowy Karmic planets in our chart. They act as triggers to deliver both Karmic rewards and Karmic punishments in our life.

In fact astrologers do not have clear agreements on the signs of exaltation and debilitation of these two planets. Some consider that both of them are exalted in either Gemini or Virgo , the two signs of Mercury. Then both Sagittarius and Pisces the two signs of Jupiter will become the signs of debilitation of both these planets. Because of this confusion it is difficult to explain the logic behind it.

What you will find interesting that there are three distinct pairs among the family of planets. They are Sun and Saturn; Jupiter and Mars; Mercury and Venus.
